The King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD)has been directed by the County to cut over $12 million dollars from their operation budget. Some of the proposed ideas from DAJD include closing the booking area at the MRJC, closing Work Release (WER), and Electronic Home monitoring (EHM). KOMO News has already broadcasted a story about this, and can be found at http://komonews.com/news/local/king-county-jail-considering-worst-case-scenario-for-south-king-county-police
Public Safety needs to be a priority for King County. Our Police, Fire/EMS, and Jails provide vital link to keeping our communities safe. Closing things like work release will potentially result in more violent offenders roaming our streets and neighborhoods.
The guild is encouraging those who live in King County to contact your elected county officials and express your concerns about these massive cuts to public safety. Closing the RJC Booking area will cause patrol deputies and police officers from the South County to now drive to Seattle to book their prisoners. This will cause this patrol officer to be out of service, and unable to respond to emergencies or 911 calls in the South County.
Call your elected county officials and demand that Public Safety to be a priority in their budget.
